Change of Address Checklist
Who you need to contact and how to prepare for this change

When it comes to moving, you may not realize all that goes into it. Something some people overlook is notifying people about your new address and all that goes into preparing for this change. Most tenants think to notify the postal service, which is a great start, but there are some other people and facilities that need to be notified as well. The reason you have to notify the post office is so they can forward mail to your new address instead of your old. You do not want to end up losing or missing important pieces of mail because they do not forward it to the correct location.
Other people who need to be notified of your new address:
- Your work
- The bank you use
- Credit card companies
- Insurance companies (renter’s, car, health, etc.)
- Utility companies
- Magazine subscriptions
- DMV
- Cell phone provider
- Anyone who sends you bills
Changing your address with the postal service can typically be done online for a minor fee. It is important to notify all of the above when moving so that you ensure you do not miss bills or other important pieces of mail.
